FOR STARTERS

The choices we make around the foods we put in our bodies not only have an impact on our health, but also on the health of the planet. Because every piece of food takes energy to grow, be produced, be packaged and shipped, frozen, heated, etc., we are using more energy to make the food than we get from eating the food.

SO, HOW DO WE FIX THIS?

Or at least do our part? By buying locally, organically, and in season. The closer your food is grown to you, the less energy it takes to get to you. Find out what fruits and vegetables grow near you during different times of the year. Visit your local farmers’ market. By buying in season, you’re also saving money (bonus!) because there is usually an abundance of what's in season. Fresh, ripe foods always tastes so much yummier in their time of year. Think about that perfect summer strawberry – so juicy, so red, so sustainable!
