Yesterday I watched the Padres-Cardinals game. Denise called and reminded me of the Padres scarf she had bought for Murphy. I pulled it out and soon after the Padres scored the three runs they needed to win the game. After the game, I put the scarf on Enzo and we went for a celebratory walk.. | |

After I posted on Thursday, I took Enzo to the dog park. He did was he's done most of the times we've gone -- was excited at first, then didn't do much. But, after about 30 minutes he got much more interested in the other dogs, started trotting around, and was quite social. A little later it started getting dark, and I decided we needed to go home. He did not want to get back on the leash and leave. Then I spotted a large standard poodle on the other side of the park, so we went over there. His name was William. Enzo tried hard to play with him and was very persistent, the most persistent I have seen him. According to his owner, William showed more interest in playing with Enzo than he has with any other dogs at the park. They didn't play much, but it was great to see Enzo trying so hard. If they meet again, perhaps they will play. I've mentioned to some of you that Enzo hasn't shown much interest in toys or balls. Before we left for the park we were in the yard, and I tossed a tennis ball, which he ignored. I later started watering the front yard and he came back, grabbed the ball, and took it to the side where he likes to hang out. He played with the ball a bit, but would stop if I tried to toss it to him. Then, late that night, about 10 pm, Enzo indicated a need to go outside by standing by the front door. I let him out and followed him around to the side. He had found the ball and was playing with it. He saw me, picked up the ball in his mouth and ran down towards the driveway. He stopped and looked at me, with the ball in his mouth. He was in a quite playful, goofy mood. We went back inside and about 40 minutes later he did the same thing. After that trip I tried to get him to play with some toys inside. He did a little. After the third time outside to get the ball and go potty, I brought the ball inside; he played with it a little more and then started chewing the squeeky squirrel toy. It was fun to see him in a goofy, playful mood, despite the late hour. |

Uncle Jim and Charlotte, along with their dogs Amber and Rosie, sent Enzo a nice welcome gift that included the rope toy he's playing with at right. Thanks! I tried taking a movie of Enzo with my camera. It's not great, but I think you can view it by clicking here. |

There's Enzo at one of his dog park trips over the past weekend. Both times we went to the dog park (different parks) he was excited when we first arrived, but then spent most of the time just wandering around. He didn't really play with any dogs. But, I'm sure he will in time. He's getting much better when we arrive at doggie daycare, jumping out of the car rather than being dragged. We also took a nice walk up and around Council Crest Park. He got a little spooked by some noises, but nothing major. He enjoyed spending time with Nina and Art, who were quite generous with petting him. Not a whole lot more to report. He did get his nails trimmed at doggie daycare yesterday and that apparently went fine. Now I need to make him a grooming appointment; his hair is getting long! |

My apologies to the two or three faithful readers of this blog for the delay in posting. The delay can be attributed to two factors: (1) Work is busier since the school year started; and (2) Enzo has improved so much that there isn't something new to report every day. Over the weekend we went to the dog park again. As soon as we arrived, his tail was up and he was happy. He didn't play with any dogs, but walked up to a couple women sitting in chairs, waiting to get petted, and they complied. He's also getting out of the car now without much coaxing. That was good, since we tried the Lucky Lab again. That's him at the right, safely under the table. He seemed pretty comfortable there. Yesterday I took him to work with me in the afternoon. He settled down just fine in my office, after making it through the noisy and frightening Urban Center plaza. He clearly did not like that experience, particularly when the streetcar came through honking its horn. I had several meetings with students in my office and he didn't seem to mind at all, enjoying the petting he received. He'll be at No Bonz tomorrow (Friday), so you can see him on the webcam. Nina and Art are coming this weekend to visit, so I'm sure there will be something to report about that! |
