Q: In what ways do you see yourself becoming a critical thinker? Have your reading and thinking skills changed? Has your ability to respond thoughtfully to scholarly texts changed? Have you become more capable of making and supporting arguments and doing analysis? In which assignments did you find yourself actively engaged in investigating, problem-posing, or conceptualizing?
A: I see myself becoming a critical thinker because I just don't read over the material to get the assignment done, I read it for knowledge. I think over the readings more and see how they effect my life and the world I live in rather just simply reading it. My thinking skills have changed because there is more to take in and comprehend then just knowing issues, its about understanding them. Its better to know the whole issues, both sides of the story, then just know what you believe. My ability to respond thoughtfully to scholarly texts has changed. I'm able to understand more what the author is talking about because I thoughtfully read now, as before I would just skim over the reading. I have become more capable of making and supporting arguments and doing analysis because looking at both sides of the story makes your argument stronger. Before I would just find out all the issues that had to do with my side and would totally forget the other. Now it makes perfect sense to study both sides of the story to gain a fuller understanding. The Katrina paper and debate was were I found myself actively engaged in investigating, problem-posing, and conceptualizing.
