Cordoba

Cordoba was once the most powerful city in Europe. It was the capital of the Caliph, ruler of the Islamic Kingdom of southern Spain. In the eighth century a mosque was built which was later converted into a cathedral. This is a truly amazing building which needs to be seen to be believed.

The mosque was originally constructed with over nine hundred of these internal arches. Today the arches survive, along with many other statues, paintings and icons.

Bell tower of the mosque.
