Biographical Details:
Hannah Howse was probably the oldest child of Rev. John Howse and hs wife, Alice, and was born, perhaps, about 1594, undoubtedly in England and possibly in County Kent. However, no record of her baptism has yet been found. She and John Lothropp were married in October of 1610 in the parish of Eastwell, very likely by her own father, who was the rector. Nothing specific is known of Hannah's life or her personal characteristics, but as a parson's daughter it may be supposed that she was a typical young woman of good reputation, although probably not well educated. She and her husband had eight known children of which seven are believed to have survived to adulthood. Hannah Howse Lothropp died, presumably in London, while her husband was incarcerated in Newgate prison as a nonconformist clergyman. Even so, he was allowed to visit her shortly before her death and the context would suggest that she died of some kind of infectious disease, perhaps, tuberculosis, but this can only be speculation. No burial place is known.Source Citations:
