For you PSU MPA students seeking enlightment on some of those complicated-sounding
phrases PSU Public Administration professors like to use, I'll share with you
their secret meanings:
- "Reflective Practice" (usually said intoning great profundity)--This
means to think about what you do.
- "Cultural Competence"--No Public Administration Division professors
can define what this means, but some still like to say it. Also, those professors
who say it think that they've got more of it than you do, and that they can teach
you so that you'll get more of it also (but never as much as they have).
- "Sustainability"--What does she mean if you hear a PA Professor say
"We have a commitment to sustainability"?
Translation: "We recycle".
