What are these Files: Files available to download are mainly instructional files for student use. You should be able to figure out what are most of the files, perhaps with the help of the ReadMe files (see below). Some files, however, may be files intended as files that I instruct students to download and, without instruction, may not be understandable or useable by you. Email me if you have questions.
Where are the Files: Students taking one of my courses should first look at the main help page for that course, which contains links to some of the files, and should then look through the list of files available in the directory (folder) for that course. In the course-specific directories you will find files for course assignments and other helpful documents. Other files relevant to that course may appear in the main download directory, and in the various sub-directories, including the directories for the specific courses. The "Data" folder contains data files (mainly SPSS files), and documentation files for the data, that you can use for course data analysis projects. Please note that the help pages for my specific courses have links to some of the most important help files, but to see all of the files available that might help you will need to look at the list of files in the course's directory and in other relevant folders.
How to Download a File: To download a file, right click on the file name and save the file to your local hard drive (right click, save target as).
Trouble Opening a File Directly from My Web Site: If you have trouble opening an SPSS or any other type of file from my web site by clicking on the file name in your web browser, then 1) first download the file to your local hard drive (right click, save target as), and then 2) open the file (start SPSS or other application program, then File-Open). That will usually solve the problem.
Trouble Down-Loading with non-IE Browsers: If you have trouble down-loading files with Netscape Navigator or any browser other than Internet Explorer, try using Internet Explorer instead.
ReadMe files: For some of the files or groups of files I have a "ReadMe" text (txt) file that you can click on or download to get some explanatory information about the available files. Look for the files that have "ReadMe" in the file name and......Read Them!
Types of Files: Several specific types of files are here, as explained below. You can tell the type of file by the extension (the last part of the name).
Help! I Can't Get Downloading to Work on My Computer: Then stop fighting it and go to one of the PSU computer labs, such as the excellent lab on the second floor of the URBN building. You should not have any trouble downloading files from my website using those computers. Make sure you use a PC, not a Mac, since Mac users will tend to have more compatibility problems.
Macintosh users can download the MacZip program from:
Both Windows and Mac users can find unzip utilities and other software at:
After you unzip the file(s), you can open the file(s)
with the appropriate application program.
