Why is it called bubble tea?
Before handing out our bubble tea drinks, we often shake it to mix the flavors; as a result, little foamy bubbles form at the top of the drink. This is why you can still order a "bubble tea" without the tapioca balls.
The most traditional consistency of bubble tea is a unique and precise blend of tea, milk (Fat Straw uses coconut milk), sugar, and of course the tapioca pearls.
Are there other names for this "bubble tea"?
Bubble tea is the umbrella that covers all different names of the drinks known as, but not limited to: boba tea, boba nai cha, tapioca ball drink, pearl shake, black pearl tea or zhen shu nai cha. This drink is far from the typical iced tea that most people are familiar with.
In addition to these tasty beverages, we proudly serve Stumptown Coffee (NW Location) and Portland Roasting Coffee (Hawthorne Location) coffee and espresso, and loose leaf teas from Tao of Tea.
