Content must be readable and understandable

The four principles of accessibility lay a foundation for anyone to access and use online content, and does not prohibit or restrict access to information for people with disabilities. The four principles are perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.

A

  • The default language of each page and document is set to English. For all external d2l documents the author must set the document’s default language. You do not need to do this on pages created within d2l

  • Font is not smaller than 10 points. (Recommended 12 point)

    • Use of a sans-serif style font

    • An alternative text tag (alt tag) is used for every image

    • All caps font is not used to convey emphasis

Instructions are provided when requiring user input or interaction

AA

  • The human language of each passage or phrase in the content can be programatically determined

  • Abbreviations or acronyms explain or expand on the definition the first time it is used, or provides a link to the definition

  • Words from other languages are identified and explained

AAA

  • Words used in an unusal or restriced way are identified

  • A mechanism is created for alerting the user to abbreviations being used

    • A mechanism is available for identifying specific pronunciation of words is ambiguous without knowing the pronunciation
