Closeup of Lady Elliot from the air. You can see the landing
strip, from right to left. The resort is located on the lower left
hand quadrang; the large building is the meeting hall, classrooms, and
dining hall. at the bottom end of the curving road near the center
of the landing strip is the dive shack, where we got outfitted with diving
equipment, which we then put on a trailer, that was pulled to the far end
of the road. There, we put on our equipment and waded out to the
flat-bottomed dive boat, which took us out past the rather narrow band
of shallow reef to deeper water. This same area also had some of
the best snorkelling on the island, along the edge of the reef. The
upper right-hand quadrant of the island is all nature preserve.
