The bench above East Peak Lake, seen from the ridge leading toward North Three Links Lakes.  The best route leads up the rocky spur visible in the center of the picture; from the top of that spur, it is possible to climb up toward the right side of the bench, or follow a rudimentary trail that leads to the right, and over to East Peak Lake.  On the way in, we crossed the face of the slope by a trail that is barefly visible, a few hundred feet upslope from the large sloping rock at the bottom.  The sloping rock itself is easy and fun hiking.

On the way back, we went straight upslope from the upper end of the rock, following the trees to a point to the right and about twenty feet above the lowest part of the notch that leads onto the bench.  There are some rock faces that are a bit precarious, but for the most part it is loose rock, with thin grass and short shrubs.  The slope is steep, but it isn't difficult to find a way past the precarious places - about halfway up, we found it was better to cross through the trees to the right side.  This is one of the places where we were really glad to have trekking poles!
