Teaching Statement

As an instructor, I strive to practice diversity, equity and inclusion in my learning goals, methods, materials and assignments. I also foster the values of equity and inclusion in my students through the competencies I teach. These include both general and discipline specific competencies, and are designed to complement one another with the goal that my students will receive valuable skills to prepare them for their career paths and become more socially and environmentally conscious citizens.

While specific competancies vary by course, the general competencies I teach to include critical reasoning, understanding uncertainty, applying mathematics to practical problem-solving, and understanding cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural linkages in and beyond the sciences.

I am currently teaching GEOG 314U: Severe Weather at Portland State University, but I also regularly guest lecture in other PSU classes. You can find links to Severe Weather and lecture materials in the links on this page.
