*Alternate Routes during Heavy Traffic Times:
-
During work-day afternoon rush hours I-5 northbound gets slow.
Usually from about 2:00 to about 6:45 the traffic can be pretty bad,
with stop and go traffic common during much of that time.
So at those times I suggest that you avoid I-5 and use alternative routes.
-
MLK Bld. is an excellent alternative to I-5 if you are driving north.
If you are coming from SE Portland then NE 33rd Dr. might be a good alternative.
If coming from further east then driving west on Marine Dr. is a good route.
-
If coming north on MLK Bld. instead of I-5, follow the signs for Marine Drive east
and then procede as above.
**Where to Park:
-
In the Captain's Moorage additional parking area: Just east of Captain's Moorage
turn down gravel road (NE 1st Ave.) and then turn right into grass/gravel parking area.
-
Area labeled "Sailor Parking" east of the Captains Moorage ramp--
Immediately east of Captain's Moorage ramp and trash dumpster park on gravel
strip on the water (north) side of Bridgeton Rd.
-
On the side streets a few blocks east of Captain's Moorage
-
On Haight Ave., which is west of Captain's Moorage and one block west of Gantenbein
-
In a parking area several blocks away, off of Haight Ave., where there is
almost always space available:
Drive west on Bridgeton Rd. one block past Gantenbein, turn left onto Haight Ave.,
and if you cannot park on Haight then turn right into the parking lot behind the
rowhouses and park there. Park towards the back of the lot, and do not worry about the signs.
Click here to see a map.
-
In the Columbia School parking lot at the east end of Bridgeton Road:
Drive east from Captain's Moorage, turn right down the hill past the school yard and
park in the lot. There is plenty of space; there is always parking available;
and it is a nice walk along the levee to Captain's Moorage.
-
Do NOT park in parking spaces on the river side
of Bridgeton Road that are reserved for floating home residents.
Areas labeled "Sailor Parking"are the exception, but all
numbered slots are reserved spaces for the floating home owners.
