Course Description: Nowadays,
every college student needs to know how to use computers for class presentations,
for writing papers, and for preparing reports. In this class, you
will learn some of the computer and internet tools which students use for
university classes. You will create a final project which demonstrates
that you can use these tools effectively.
Class Objectives: The main
goal of this class is to improve your ability to use computers for English
study. By the end of this class, you should be able to:
-
locate information on the Internet using a
variety of search engines
-
save and organize information found on the
Web
-
critically interpret and evaluate Web sites
based on specific criteria
-
make three types of charts/graphs using Microsoft
Excel
-
create and present a report using basic elements
of Microsoft PowerPoint presentation software
-
understand how to log-in to and navigate a
Web CT course environment
Grading: All grades for this
class are either PASS or NO PASS. I expect you to come to class on
time at 12:00 sharp. If you miss more than two classes, you will
not pass the class. Being late two times is equal to an absence.
We will not have homework assignments, but I expect you to work hard during
class time. Some of the assignments we do in class will be
pair assignments, others will be individual assignments. Your grade
will be determined by attendance and in-class participation. Remember
that much of the work we do in this class is intended to support your other
classes. Please come to class ready to ask questions about any type
of computer operations. I am here to help you.
