GPI is a measure of economic, environmental and social progress

Gross Domestic Production continues to increase where as the GPI levels off

Our economic, environmental and social progress has stalled out.

The GDP measures all economic activity. The GPI accounts for good and bad aspects of economic activity.

The GPI measures the good and bad aspects

examples:

measures personal consumption as a good thing but economic inequality as a bad thing

water pollution is a bad thing - whereas the clean up of water pollution would be counted as a positive contribution to the GDP

counts volunteer work as a good thing whereas un-compensated employment wouldn't count in the GDP

Measurement and Improvement

might need to measure to improve, but just because you can measure it doesn't make that the right thing to do
