• Homework must be handed in on the day it is due. Late homework will only be accepted if you are absent, and hand it in on the same day that you return to class. Late homework will be marked, but will receive a grade of zero.
• No make-up tests or classwork will be given or accepted.

MIDTERM EXAM.................................20%

• Verb tenses, particularly their usage
• Unreal conditions
• Perfective and passive infinitive forms
• Subordination/coordination of structures

• Causative verbs (have, make, let)
• Subject/verb inversion and fronting of structures
• Subjunctive verbs
• Articles
• Reduced forms, especially adjective and adverb clauses

By the end of the term, you should be able to do the following.

• Understand and use all verb tenses in statements, questions, and negatives
• Understand and use causative verb forms
• Recognize and use subject/verb inversion, including fronting of structures
• Recognize and use subjunctive verb constructions
• Recognize which article to use with a variety of noun phrases
• Be able to be understood in speaking and writing using each of these structures
• Edit written work to a level that meets the expectations of clarity and acceptability for the university
• Perform each of these objectives with at least 70% accuracy in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, with particular emphasis on writing.
