Molecule of the Week #2

Chlorophyll b

Hi Dr. Wamser.

I think I figured out what the molecule for week two is. The
molecule is Chlorophyll b. It has the molecular formula C55 H70 Mg N4 O6.
Chlorophyll in general is the green pigment located within chloroplasts
(plants). It is the light energy by chlorophyll that drives the synthesis of
food molecules in the chloroplast. Chlorophyll b happens to be another form
of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll b is slightly different in structure giving it a
yellow-greenish color. If a photon of sunlight is absorbed by chlorophyll b,
energy is then converted into a another structure of chlorophyll.
