Value of top soil

You should be able to buy topsoil for about $20/cubic yard.

Usually this is the top 6" of soil.

• 1 acre (4840 yd^2 per acre)
• x 6 inches deep (= .167 yds)
• = 807 yd^3
• $20 per cubic yard* 807 cubic yards = $16000 of soil per acre

Some places are scrapping off 5 feet of top soil before building houses - $160,000 worth of soil per acre.
