Example 1: Polyface Farm - it's not just the farm

running the farm using artisinal methods

obtained the land in the first place and had to restore it to productivity

created a market for organic products (individual clients, restuarants)

had to fight arbitrary regulations - against slaughterhouses

 

Example 2: The Oregon Bottle Bill

Problem with bottle and can pollution

Oregon established a 5 cent deposit

the public was willing to pay this deposit

required agreement with the supermarkets that provided them with a benefit

this is an extremely high tax on unreturned cans ($0.30 per can - $0.05 tax)
