This set of pages is designed to help you review the mathematics that will be used in this course.

In this initital version there are seven relationships that will be described:

linear y= mx+b
polynomial y = x^2
exponential y = 10^x, or y = e^x
log y = log(x), or y = ln(x)
trig y = sin(x) or y = tan(x)
saturating
hyperbola
y= x/(x+K)
sigmoidal "logistic equation" or
y = x^n / (x^n + K^n)

The following information will be provided for each of these relationships:

  • a verbal description of the relationship
  • the equation and the meaning of x, y, and other parameters
  • one or more examples
  • a graph
  • algebraic rules that apply to the use of this equation
  • characteristic values
