Lecture 9 - February 4, 2009

1.MSS-with resilience

dissect the model

look for pieces that work on their own

2. Steady state, but with species, not individuals

island biogeography (link)

Data collection from across many sizes of islands in an archepelego shows range constant change in ratio.

3. Input-output, potentially steady state, but with an interaction term

predator prey model

courses/stella/predator-prey

(you will be constructing and working with this model in lab)

prey growth rate determined by Logistic equation (carrying capacity and intrinsic r)

predator growth rate determined by

carrying capacity and

predator * prey (related to the chance that they collide)

harvest efficiency (proportion of collisions that result in predator eating prey)

looks sort of like this

it's possible for this to reach a steady state

It's also possible that other behaviors are exhibited.

5. Possible quiz questions for review
