Environmental Problems

This assignment is worth 5 points and is due at the beginning of class on Wednesday Oct 01. Please review the late work policy as described in the syllabus (late work penalty).

This assignment has 5 parts.

1. Choose an general area of environmental problems that you would like to learn more about and help solve.You can choose a area from the lists of problems I presented in class or identify your own.

2. Narrow the scope with a problem definition statement that focuses on one area that you would like to work on. For example, if the problem is "global climate change", you should identify a particular area of research and action that you think would make a contribution, such as decreasing methane production in rice cultivation. This should only be several sentences.

3. Justify the importance of this problem and how the solution will contribute to the common good.

4. Make a short list of academic background, practical and other experience you think would help you address this problem. Who would you like to collaborate with, i.e. what other skills and experience would you like to have as part of your project?

5. Propose a list of steps that you could take toward contributing to solving this problem. In particular, what are some short term steps that you could take?
