Week 7 Crux Feedback

General comments for the week:

In addition to answering the details of the questions (which is all that is required for full points), I'm looking to see if you used some of the approaches we have presented in class. In addition, I'm interested in whether you focus on synergistic solutions, that reduce water, energy and land at the same time.

approaches:

three impacts at once - accounting (overlapping benefits)

Polyface - systems (closed, positive feedback), scale (is it effective at larger scales)

Q1. Agriculture has environmental impacts due to water, energy and land.  Explain (very briefly) each type of impact.

Give a plausible example of a change to agriculture that could simultaneously lessen the detrimental environmental impacts on all three.

statement on water, energy and land use

plausible example means something that would likely work

good statement about plausible solutions, but better answer would have focused on the synergistic soluation that would save all at once

Q2. Although there are valid arguments for consuming less animal products, how does Polyface farm use technology, animals and ecological principles to run a sustainable farm? Give an example for the use of each?

What is your judgement of the effectiveness of their farm operation and how well it might translate to other areas of the world that need better agricultural practices?

describe basices of Polyface farm, technology and actions

give and example of an ecological principle

judgement of expanding this to underdeveloped countries, critical focus would be on what limits this approach, such as water availability

Just saying that it would be good is too weak of an answer.

OK, but judgement could be more critical if you adresses where it wouldn't work
