Electron Optics: aberration correction of electron lenses

The resolution in many  electron optical applications is limited by lens aberrations. These can often be compensated by the use of electron mirrors. On the right is the suggestion for an aberration-corrected electron microscope that is now under construction at PSU.

Shadow graph images obtained with uncorrected electron lenses (top) and with mirror-corrected lenses in the same set-up (bottom).
