Some chromosome mutation terminology
monoploid: number of chromosomes in basic set (x)
euploid: organisms with multiples of monoploid number
normal euploidy:
haploid: one chromosome set for species
diploid: two chromosome sets for species
Polyploidy: more than two sets of chromosomes for species
triploid (3n); tetraploid (4n); pentaploid (5n);
hexaploid (6n)
monoploid (1n): gametic number
"In most animals and many plants that we are familiar with, the
haploid number and the monoploid number are the same. Hence, n or x
(or 2n or 2x) can be used interchangeable." text page 250
wheat ...(Triticum aestivum; 2n= 6x= 42)..... has 42 chromosomes;
it is hexaploid 6x); x = 7; 6 times 7 = 42; gametes have three
genomes of 7 chromosomes each A, B, D.
2n = AA BB DD (6 times 7) = 42
Aneuploidy
nullisomic (2n - 2) for same chromosome
monosomic (2n - 1)
trisomic (2n + 1).... not to be confused with triploid
(3n)
