Ray will bring:
1. Apparatus for large-volume sample filtration
- a. Submersible pump (runs off 12 V DC w/ max flow 13.8 L/min)
- b. Tubing (sufficient to obtain samples from depth down to 5 m), fittings & wound polypropylene filter cartridges (100, 10, & 1 mm)
- c. Opticap XL4 low-protein binding filter capsules (0.5/0.2 mm nominal)
- d. Container & container-liners for collection of 100 L samples
2. Apparatus for tangential flow filtration (TFF)
- a. Pellicon 2 TFF system for concentrating >30 kD fraction
- i. Peristaltic pump (115 V AC)
- 1. will need portable generator or alternative for use in field
- ii. Flow rate w/ system will be approx. 0.5L/min
- 1. Allows concentration of 100 L of prefiltered lake or spring water down to 100 mL retentate in approx. 3.5 h.
3. HydroLab Datasonde 4a multiprobe w/ 50 m of cable
- a. For measurement of depth, pH, temp. DO, specific conductance, oxygen reduction potential, photosynthetically-active radiation, turbidity
Various sample bottles & tubes, sterile disposable syringes and syringe filters for filter-sterilization of viral concentrates, freezer-paks, chemical heat-paks and insulated coolers for sample transport
Most desired item:
- 1. a portable power source (small gas-powered generator?) that can be used to run the peristaltic pump(s) in the field
