    1. Next month’s meeting

1.      Ronnye is going to arrange for someone to come to talk about instrumental repair for the next meeting.  Mr. Boberg is one possibility.

2.      There is a conflict with Dec. 5th for the next meeting as the Wind Symphony has a noon concert.  The next meeting will be January 9th, Thurs. in room 135.

  1. Emily de la Cruz was scheduled to come talk about GTEP.  She did not show.  Her contact information is 503-725-4588, delacruz@pdx.edu.  She is an Associate Professor for the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.  The website for the Graduate School of Education is http://www.ed.pdx.edu/

PRAXIS:  Ruth talked about her experiences with GTEP and answered questions:  The Praxis is good to take after the class music with children.  There are packets available to download from http://www.ets.org/praxis/prxorder.html.  The tests that you need to take are 10113 and 20112.  There is a listening portion to one of the tests where you will be given a score and you will need to point out errors.  That test is easy and the errors are obvious.  One of the tests includes music history and music analysis.  It is good to review music history and the first two years of theory.  To pass, a score of 167 is needed for both tests.  In two weeks after you take the test, you will get unofficial results.  After 6 weeks, you will get official results.  The cost for the Praxis exams is $200 total, $75 for each test and $35 for registration.  Test dates are 11/23/02, 01/11/03, 03/08/03, 04/26/03 and 06/28/03.  Go to the Praxis website for more information:  http://www.ets.org/praxis/

CBEST:  is another test that you have to take.  There is an essay portion and the test is $40.  Go to http://www.cbest.nesinc.com/ for more information.

A lot of people at PSU have taken all of these tests and passed but still did not get into the GTEP program.  Last year 3 people got into the program.

The application process includes applying to the GTEP and to the PSU graduate admissions.  The GTEP application includes an essay portion where you should talk about your experience with children.  The application also includes letters of recommendation.  One of those letters has to be from David Jimerson.  The MSAT test is not required for applying to GTEP.

There is scholarship information at the PSU GTEP office and at financial aid in Neuberger Hall.  Most deadlines are in January.
