GIS II Final Exam Questions

Answer question #1 AND answer either question #2 or #3. Your answers must be typed and any relevant diagram neatly drawn. Please make an effort to be thorough yet concise. Your answer should be no more than one page per question (single-spaced), not including graphics. Use all resources available to you including texts, manuals, lab exercises, and help files. Please cite the references appropriately. A hardcopy of the exam is due to the instructor on March 18 at the beginning of the class.

1.     Describe the tasks involved in your final (group) project and your role and contributions for each of these tasks. Please write down your project title at the beginning of your answer. (10 points)

2.     Describe the steps involved in using a Kriging method to perform spatial interpolation. Include the discussions on the concepts of 1) spatial interpolation, 2) empirical and modeled (or fitted) semivariograms, 3) isotropy versus anisotropy, and 4) searching neighborhood.

3.     Describe the beneficial and adverse effects of spatial autocorrelation has on geographic analysis and describe two quantitative (statistical) indices one can use to detect spatial autocorrelation in geographic data. The answer should include the descriptions on how to interpret the values of the spatial autocorrelation indices mentioned in your answer.
