Lab 3:
Labeling Features and Querying Data
Introduction
This lab introduces labeling and
querying in ArcGIS. You will learn the following skills in ArcView:
- Using
dynamic labels
- Setting
rules for placing labels
- Using
interactive labels and creating annotation
- Identifying,
selecting, finding, and hyperlinking features
- Selecting
features by attribute
- Creating
reports

Do the tutorial exercises in
Chapters 7 and 8 of Getting to Know ArcGIS Desktop.
Deliverables
Answer the following questions and
produce the following outputs. Hand them in to the instructor at the beginning
of the next lab section. Labs should be typed, include your name and lab
number, be well organized, and stapled together.
Chapter 7
- At
the end of section 7a put your name above Gulf of
Mexico and print the map.
- At
the end of exercise 7b switch to the layout view, and print the map.
- At
the end of exercise 7c put your name above the Gulf
of Mexico and print the map.
Chapter 8
- After
you finish exercise 8a answer the following questions by using the find
and hypertext tools. Who owns the house at 822 Columbia? What color is the house?
How many stories is the house?
- What
is SQL and what can it do?
- At
the end of exercise 8b do another query to answer the following
questions. How many houses 3 or more bedrooms and a sale price less
than $120,000? What are their addresses?
- Print
the report at the end of exercise 8c. However, rather than making
the title "Available Three Bedroom Houses" as specified in the
exercise, make the title "Potential Homes For Your Name."
