Map matching

The process of joining GPS features to streets, roads, and trails. Map matching is one of the most complex processing steps.

ASAP includes a multiple hypothesis map matching algorithm. Up to 40 competing routes are compared as each point is added. This is especially useful in dense networks, or where different facilities are very close together (or even on top of one another!).

Map matching travel to links allows further analysis about the types of facilities that encourage or discourage active travel. It also provides more accurate trip distances, especially in dense urban places.
