The list below is for iPhones. Some of the same apps are available for Android or other platforms. Names will come up when you use iPhone "search" resource in App Store. All are free, at least in their "lite" versions. 1) Begin with the usual Google Earth, MapQuest, etc. 2) Navigation and surveying: Theodolite (Hunter Research & Technology): altitude angles, latitude / longitude Compass Elevation My Altitude (also does latitude / longitude, barometric pressue, and boiling point of water) Sextant - mostly a toy to use in bars, with some "pirate" language. But shows how sextants work to point to horizon and sight some object in the sky. Spyglass (happymagenta.com) - the full tool for extracting navigational info and relating it to GPS maps. 3) Math & Geometry: Trig Solver: calculate sides and angles of triangle (right or regular) - useful for navigation and surveying Angle Meter - measure phone position in both axes; can be used as simple sextant or surveying tool 4) Chemistry: Periodic Table QuickElem (another app for Period Table of Elements) All participants: You are expected to share resources, including smart phone resources, when you work together face-to-face-to-screen. |
