(30') SpeakEasy maintenance: the "Box" for the fall group (what will be in it, who will create it, and what will be the identities of the "who's" that create it?). What are the best ways to engage student learning, consistently with the nature of SE as a company? (see below for 29 April)

NYRB article about Ravitch's new book; teaching reading (skills vs. content?) and how that harmonizes with CBI

-

(20') The summer 2010 "Humboldt" SINQ: 1) Some ideas for a course conducted in English. 2) How can we re-think those ideas for L2 CBI?

(29 April): SpeakEasy maintenance with Brett Condron. How to convey to newbies the company's "culture", expectations, and general way of operating. Importance of clear goals (and the right ones), group work, asking questions, creativity, active participation. Suggestions: intake surveys of aptitudes, experiences, personalities. Create an advisory atmosphere. Have newbies apply to departments. Linguistic issues: concept of "agency" - determining who does what (can include many grammatical & lexical features. How to convey comprehensible input (importance of authentic materials - but not sufficient in themselves).
