Biographical Details:

The oldest child of Thomas Jefferson and Sarah McGuire Evans was James Earl born July 28, 1879.  At that time, his parents were living in the "McGuire neighborhood" of Huggins Township in Gentry County, Missouri.  However, in the middle of the 1880's the family moved to a large farm in Miller Township located between the villages of Ford City and Gentryville.  Earl Evans married Verdie Lou Roberson in Gentry County on December 18, 1901.  They had three, viz., Dale, Helen, and Donald.  James Earl Evans was a farmer and in 1920 was living near Gentryville.  Moreover, his farm appears to have been at least a portion of the original land purchased by his father in 1899 from the estate of Elijah Johnson Miller (Uncle Jonse).1   Even so, by 1930, he and his wife had moved into the town of Stanberry and were evidently living on Elm Street.  James Earl Evans died of pneumonia on October 21, 1937, in Lawrence, Kansas.  At that time, it would seem that his son and daughter-in-law were proprietors of a boarding house in Lawrence (possibly associated with the University of Kansas, but this is merely speculation).  His widow survived him more than thirty years and in 1940 was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and John Cummins, in Jackson Township in Gentry County.  They are both buried in the Ford City Cemetery.
