Microscopy at Portland State University
Gertrude F
Rempfer
Professor Emerita of Physics. B.S.
1934, Ph.D. 1939 University of Washington.
Dr. Rempfer's work has primarily involves photoelectron microscopy
(PEM),
low-energy reflection electron microscopy (LEEM), and aberration correction.
Here are some pictures of her lab and PEM:
This is the photoelectron microscope. There are only two on the West coast,
one Portland State University and one at University of Oregon.
This is the laboratory the PEM is kept in as well as other supporting equipment.
These are some of the sample housings and various fittings for the column.
Dr. Rempfer also has designed and built an electron beam chamber to test
out the various lens she designs before placing them into the PEM.
