The basic difference between skimming and reading here is that you should be sure that while "reading" you "get" something before moving on (or make a note to ask during lecture about it!), while during skimming you are just doing a familiarization with the material, it's NOT that it is unimportant, just that you won't use it as actively as the "read" material. Pages that are not referenced in the above list are not considered pertinent to this class.

Regardless of whether you are using Bonham-Carter, Aldeherfer/Maschner, Clarke/et al, or Lyon/McCarthy as your supplementary text read the first chapter. If using another book from the library it's a safe bet that reading the first chapter is a good idea.

You should budget accordingly to have all of this done by the end of week 2, be preapared for discussion in class on the 14th and 16th. Ask questions in class, that way everyone benefits from the answers and discussion!!!!!
