Project: Receding Glaciers

Brief description: PSU has been funded to map the change in areal extent of glaciers in the Western US over the last century. Of particular interest is the effect on stream runoff during the drier end-of summer months (August/September). Are glaciers a "buffer" to the hydrologic regime?

Combine stream gage data from the USGS with several nearly complete temporal databases of glacier change in Oregon and Washington to produce graphs and models of the relationships. Combine with raster elevation data to calculate percentage of watershed that is ice covered. Look at Climate Data for the same time period
