To use vertebrate animals for teaching or research at PSU you must obtain authorization from the PSU Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). To start this process please fill out the form found here:

The IACUC has standing monthly meetings, organized as necessary, to review animal care and policies, and to review your proposal(s). Three times per academic year (Fall, Winter, Spring) there is a more comprehensive review of the program, animal care facilities, and all areas where animals are handled.
Please note that strict federal requirements mandate that you provide certain information, and for that reason you may find some of the form's questions odd relative to your research or teaching plan. You must take the questions seriously, however, and any flippant answers will delay approval of your request. You are more than welcome to contact the IACUC chair if you are not sure how to respond. Having said that, some questions may not be relevant for your proposal, particularly if you are doing field work. We are in the process of preparing a separate form for field studies.
