J. Alan Yeakley - Teaching Activities

Courses I will teach during the 2006-2007 academic year:

Undergraduate courses I have taught in the Environmental Studies Program at Portland State University include:

  • Environmental Systems I (ESR 320), an analysis of physical environmental systems (primarily climatic and hydrologic), includes a field laboratory in watersheds in the Portland area.
  • Environmental Systems II (ESR 321), an analysis of ecological systems, includes a field laboratory in a nearby 300 ha forested watershed.
  • Environmental Studies Orientation (ESR 150), an introduction to environmental professions.
  • Environmental Studies Seminar (ESR 407)

Graduate courses I have taught in the Environmental Sciences and Resources masters and doctoral programs at PSU include:

  • Environmental Sustainability (ESR 510), an analysis of ecosystem dynamics and their relation to and management by social and economic systems (Fall 2005).
  • Watershed Biogeochemistry (ESR 527), an analysis of mineral and nutrient fluxes processes and cycling in terrestrial ecosystems.
  • Urban Ecology (ESR 528), an analysis of physical, floral and faunal responses in ecosystems to urbanization.
  • Watershed Hydrology (ESR 525), an analysis of hydrologic processes in watersheds including soil moisture dynamics, evapotranspiration and streamflow.
  • Ecological Modeling (ESR 510), a course in environmental problem solving using elementary compartment models and systems analysis.
  • Ecosystem Services: Societal Benefits of Ecological Systems (ESR 410/510), a study of the conditions and processes through which ecological systems, and the species that inhabit them, interact with and sustain human societies.
  • Environmental Sciences and Resources Seminar (ESR 507)
