ESR 407 ... Environmental Studies Seminar ... Fall 2000

Description. This course provides exposure to research and management projects, presented by practicing environmental scientists and managers.

Assignments. A passing grade requires

Report format. Written reports will be 500-1000 words, typewritten, double-spaced, and include the following information:

  1. Definition of the subject matter and explanation of its importance from an environmental perspective.
  2. Identification of the specific research problems touched upon in the seminar.
  3. Brief explanation of the research methodology.
  4. Discussion of the speaker's results and conclusions, including open questions or controversies. The discussion should show evidence of additional reading and familiarity with the literature in the research area (minimum two references). In some cases, reference materials will be provided by speakers and will be available in the ESR office, room 218 SB2.

Procedures. Students who are not environmental studies majors should not be enrolled in this course. Students enrolled in ESR 407 should regularly check the seminar announcement bulletin boards outside rooms 218 and 246 SB2 or our web site http://www.esr.pdx.edu/environ/seminars.html for specific times and dates.

Reports should be submitted to the Instructor. The first report is due no later than the fifth week of the term (i.e., by the end of Oct 2000) and the second report and list of seminars attended is due no later than the first day of finals week.
