Below is a listing of the Grants, Awards, Publications and Presentations I have written, received, been part of or completed since I began working at PSU in 2003.

Grants and Contracts:

  • 2009-2010- Paul B. Jacobson Memorial Scholarship- University of Oregon's College of Education for my Doctoral Studies- $3,000
  • 2008-2011- Co-developer with Drs. Pat Wetzel and Masami Nishishiba
    of a successful grant for Online Interpretation/Translation Skill-Building Modules for Japanese and Arabic- This project is funded for 3 years by the US Department of Education- $750,000
  • 2008-2009- Speaker's Bureau Grant- Awarded to fund honorarium for keynote speaker at Lincoln Bicentennial lecture series- $1500
  • 2002-2007- Contract with Portland Public Schools to provide ARTSplash training to generalist teachers- $30,000
  • 2007- NWACC Grant for collaborative adaptation of the ARTSplash database with Lori Hager of the University of Oregon- $10,000
  • 2002-2007- Federal Department of Education Grant for ARTSplash- I developed this grant proposal with Carol Egan of Portland Public Schools. We are currently in the rollover year of this grant- $750,000
  • 2006-2007- AAA Speaker's Grant- Awarded to partially fund honorarium for keynote speaker at lecture series- "Making Meaning of Immigration."- $500
  • 2006-2007- Speaker's Bureau Grant- Awarded to partially fund honorarium for keynote speaker at lecture series- "Making Meaning of Immigration."- $500
  • 2006-2007- AIM Engagement Grant- Awarded for writing of bi-lingual article on Mobile Consulate- $500
  • 2006-2007 Diversity Action Committee Grant- Awarded to fund production of Mobile Consulate for the Guatemalan Government and associated lecture series- "Making Meaning of Immigration."- $1,200
  • 2006-2007 Internationalization Mini-Grant- Awarded to fund production of Mobile Consulate for the Guatemalan Government and associated lecture series- "Making Meaning of Immigration." -$1,200
  • 2005-2006 Internationalization Mini-Grant- Awarded to fund travel to Iquitos Peru to meet with University of Peru in the Amazon to set up class to be proposed as an International Capstone in the Fall of 2006.-$1,200
  • 2004-2005 Internationalization Mini-Grant- Awarded to fund the purchase of video equipment I will use to film in the Mayan communities Connecting Educational Communities works in during the summers.- $1,500
  • 2002-2003 Internationalization Mini-Grants- I wrote this for my wife who used the money to attend a pedagogical conference in Cuba.
  • 2002-2003 Departmental Engagement Grant- I wrote this for the Foreign Language Department and the money was used to begin development of the Spanish Curriculum Archive.- $1,500

Awards:

  • 2007 Civic Engagement Award - For Connecting Educational Community's partnership with Jabel Tinamit, the language school and logistics provider we use in Guatemala.
  • Teaching with Technology Award- 2001-02- with Micki M. Caskey- Assistant Professor, Curriculum and Instruction. Teresa Rapida- Associate Professor, Public Administration for the “The Iroquois Confederacy and the U. S. Constitution”
  • Teaching with Technology Award- 2003-04- with Delys Ostlund and Ann Angel for the "Spanish Curriculum Archive."
  • 2003 Civic Engagement Award - Part of the team that won for Foreign Languages and Literature.
