Where the Blues Began
As you already know I came
from Romania and I came when I was fairly young. But I do remember
that in Romania many people used to sing. They used to sing when
they worked so that they wouldn’t focus to much on the hard labor, and
they used to sing when they were happy, and they used to sing when they
were sad. I know that in the country where I came from many people
were not musically inclined or knew how to play instruments. But
when their heart felt like singing gosh darn it they sang. So by
watching this film it brought back many memories of my younger days of
when I was 5 or 6. I used to stay with my grandma when my parents
whet to work in the city to earn money and my grandma used to take me to
work with her. My life experiences were not quite like in the movie,
but in Romania was also a communist country, of course I left at a young
age so I didn’t know much of what communism was like.
The film put a very strong
emphasis on the way that the blues began, which is from person to person
in the black community, in the farm lands. Of course from my personal
experience I don’t think that these people were actually saying hey let’s
invent new music called the blues. It just happened that the type
of music that they started singing about day to day life turned out become
popular and many people started. In the movie it showed how very
song was about something in their life. And these people that is
what the music was all about. About singing to make you express your
feelings in a way that a conversation cannot.
I think that the film was
great on the way it was presented. The producers had a great idea,
and they made it come true in this film. The only thing that I did
not like about the film was that the producers would sometimes ask the
men questions and then they would answer, but sometimes I could not hear
the question and I only heard the answer which in a way lead me to think
what the question was and I could probably figure it out.
The only thing that I can
say to convince someone to watch this film is that it is great. I
really gave me an idea of exactly where it came from and how it became
the blues. If you want to know where it started with what kind of
people it started, in what conditions it started and so forth, this is
a great film to watch.
