LIST OF VARIABLE NAMES AND DEFINITIONS OR CODE VALUES

  SURVIVAL, 1=died 2=lived
  TREATMNT, treatment administered,  0=Sodium Bicarbonate 1=Tham
  TIME, Time to spontaneous respiration, in seconds
  WEIGHT, weight of baby at birth, in kilograms
  AGE, weeks of gestation at birth
  APGAR, score based on 5 assessments (made right after birth) of heart rate,
     respiratory effort, muscle tone, reflex irritability and color.  Scores
     go from 0-10, with 0 bad and 10 good.  A score of 7-10 indicates that the
     infant is adjusting adquately, 4-6 indicates moderately depressed, and
     0-3 indicates severely depressed.
