CLACKMAS COUNTY COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS DATA CODEBOOK

This dataset contains data on 261 adult offenders who were in
three different corrections programs.  These programs include
a residential center/work release program, an electornic arrest
program, and an electronic arrest program combined with drug
treatment. The data include information on recidivism after the
offenders left the program.


Variable Definition/Coding

GROUP      Program participated in:
             1=IDP (Intensive Drug Program), electronic house
               arrest + drug treatment
             2=ESP (Electronic Survellience Program), electronic
               house arrest only
             3=RC (Residential Center), work release program

CONVICTS   Number of convictions, termination date to 1/31/91

ARRESTS    Number of arrests, termination date to 1/31/91

ARRSUB     Arrest for substance abuse, termination date to 1/31/91:
             0=no
             1=yes

ARRPROP    Arrest for property crime, termination date to 1/31/91:
             0=no
             1=yes

ARRPER     Arrest for person crime, termination date to 1/31/91:
             0=no
             1=yes

ARRSER     Most serious arrest type, termination date to 1/31/91:
             0=no arrest
             1=probation/parole violation
             2=misdemeanor
             3=felony

TERM       Type of termination from program:
             0=success
             1=failure
             2=neither

VIOL       Type of violation leading to termination from program:
             0=not substance abuse related
             1=drug-related
             2=alcohol-related
             (missing value assigned if TERM not equal to 1)

TIP        Time in the program (days), from program entry to
           program termination

ACARE      Status of aftercare received in IDP program:
             1=no aftercare received due to violation
             2=no aftercare received due to good time release
             3=aftercare received, but did not finish
             4=aftercare received, did finish
             missing value if GROUP not equal to 1

TIME       Time (months) from date of termination to 1/31/91

RISK       Risk assessment score on a 0-100 scale (100=high risk to
           reoffend)

SABUSE     Substance abuse problem at program entry,  0=no  1=yes

OCLASS     Offense classification of offense client was convicted
           of leading to sentencing to the program:
             1=C misdemeanor
             2=B misdemeanor
             3=A misdemeanor
             4=C felony
             5=B felony
             6=A felony

OFFENCE    Offense client was convicted of leading to sentencing to
           the program:
             0=not substance abuse related
             1=drug-related
             2=alcohol-related

AGE        Age (years) at termination from program

MS         Marital status:
             0=single
             1=married

SEX        Client's sex:
             0=male
             1=female

RACE       Client's race:
             0=white
             1=Hispanic
             2=American Indian
             3=black
             4=asian

EE         Employed at entry into program
             0=no
             1=yes

ET         Employed at termination from program
             0=no
             1=yes
