Ethical Issues and Social Responsibility

" Students will expand their understanding of the impact and value of individuals and their choices on society, both intellectually and socially, through group projects and collaboration in learning communities"

Designers can influence how others view things and how they might model their work to resemble that of the designer. These must be comfortable with their work and me comfortable with how they influence others. I understand that some of the work we do can offend others so we must take that into consideration before displaying it. When we work in groups, we have greater responsibility than when working on our own. We cannot work together than the final result is not one we want. We must not focus on the negatives things that can occur when working in a group such as some doing the majority of the work or others feeling left out, but instead the benefits that a group has such as using the strengths of each member to work together and get the work done in a quick yet efficient way.

Below is a link to a PowerPoint on chapter five, the Maya Collapse from Jared Diamond’s book Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed that summarizes chapter 5 to the audience. I believe this group work helped me achieve my goal of ethical issues and social responsibility by giving valid information relating to the Maya and fulfilling the purpose of informing the audience so that they are able to understand how the Maya collapsed.

The second link is to my paper on how women can do jobs considerd too physical and/or dirty. I believe this helped me achieve my goal of ethical issues and social responsibility by showing how inequality exists in the workforce with "dirty jobs". There is no real reason why women cannot do these jobs.

The last link to to my paper on how the Narmada Dam Project did more damaged than good. I believe this helped me achieve my goal of ethical issues and social responsibility by showing how it was not ethical for the Indian government to essentially sacrifice the lives of a few to help others.
