The purpose of this site is to increase public awareness of the social problem of homelessness in the United States and the impact of this problem on American society. If we can learn to recognize signs of homelessness then we will become more aware of the existence of homelessness and this awareness will hopefully motivate us to work to ameliorate this social problem.
Indicators of homelessness can be easily identified in nearly every urban community in America but are frequently overlooked or ignored. These indicators can be as apparent as a man pushing an overloaded shopping cart down a city sidewalk or as subtle as a city park bench that is just a foot shy of being long enough for a person of average height to sleep on comfortably.
Presented on this site are photographic images that serve to document the presence of homelessness in our communities and its impact. This site focuses primarily on the more subtle indicators of homelessness as these are more likely to be overlooked and thus require a closer examination to understand their relationship to homelessness.
