Electron Optics: aberration correction of electron lenses

In parallel to the experimental work we calculate the electron intensity distribution in corrected and uncorrected lens sytems.
Shown here is the intensity distribution for the image of a point source.

uncorrected system: Diffraction effects spread the intensity over a wide volume in image space. This reduces signal strength, contrast and resolution.
uncorrected
aberration-corrected lens system: A single, narrow high-intensity peak is obtained as the image of a point source.
