My Castle’s Rockin
I have a lot of experiences in my life that I can relate to the movie of My Castle’s Rockin. Alberta Hunter and I have the desire that we want to belong. Alberta Hunter was an incredible Blues singer. She made millions and millions people fell in love with her songs. She had travels to many places, places such as New York, France, and Europe. Even with fame and glory, Alberta Hunter was still unhappy. This is due to the fact that she was discriminates against by White. During 1970s, Black people were beneath White, so Black folk actions were limited. Hunter could not perform with White because she was black. During 1977, Alberta Hunter had a job at the hospital as nurse. There are two main reasons why she was allowed to get the job as a nurse. One, she had enough knowledge to be a nurse, and two, Black was active.
Thinking back on all of my experience, I can recall one experience that seems somewhat similar to Alberta Hunter. Alberta Hunter and I have goal that we want to achieve, however, problems arise, which prevent us from reaching our goal. In the end however, we manage to reach our goal anyway.
It was in summer of 2001, I applied to attend at Portland State University. Unfortunately, I was denied due to the fact that I was unable to meet the University English expectation. Then I called Department of Admission that was handling my case, Mr. YYY. YYY said, “You took too much English as Second Language classes, also Portland State University require a lot abilities and hard works. However, there is one way that you can deal with this problem. You should attend Portland Community College for 2 years and then transfer to over here.” After hearing this, I can only conclude that Mr. YYY has passed an unfair judgment upon me. I got very up set, even though I took many English as Second Language class, but it does not mean that I am capable of attend this public school. I had a grade point average of 3.65, involved with many school activities and community activities when I was in high school. After much convincing, 2 weeks later the Department of Admission sent me a letter that said, “Congratulation, you have been admitted to Portland State University. We required you to take Writing 115 – Intro to College Writing. You can take it at Portland Community College or here. You should take it before or during Winter Term of 2002.” With much joy, I began to sign up for classes. As a result of my hard work and determination, here I am in the hardest class of all, Freshman Inquiry. I received “B” for two terms already. Receiving B to me is such a good reward, and I will try harder to get an A for Spring Term.

If I could be someone, I would choose to be Alberta Hunter. She was passion, talent and beautiful. I admire her greatly because when she moved to Chicago and have a lot of money; she was able to bring her parents to Chicago as well. This shows that she love her family. Moreover, as a nurse she seem to love her patients as well. A person full of love for others is a great person in my opinion.

Convince:

This movie not just wants to show us that a healthy 82 years of age still singing in the stage of Blues, but it also want us to guide us to understand how black women perspective while they did not have any freedom.  Women had the abilities of their own without depending on men. Twenty years of working without one day of being late. She tried to raise money for family and herself for the happiness.  What a greatest thing that this woman had done. So if I was you, I will not miss the history of black women and how she became a Blues star.  Enjoy!!!!
