Can
you distinguish between the two different forms of power Foucault refers
to and why he makes that distinction?
In these two
articles it was hard to determine the definition of power. In everyone
bodies it already born with the power and knowledge. Knowledge led us to
have more powerful. Foucault believes in “On Power” the power that one
person have on another is through knowledge. He bought up the example of
being a boss in an industry. From my understanding, in order for someone
to be a boss, that person have to have a good skills, in another word is
knowledge. Power has so much to do with our life. It rules every parts
of inside and out side of the world. Everyone in this world or things that
are existed in the world always wants to have power over one another. One
from how big they are? Two: how smart? It also depends on us to choose
to have this power or not. But in other hand Foucault wants us to understand
that by having prison is the way of scare people (power of controlling)
by the punishment. If people done bad things, they will get arrested. That
mean the government knows and use these power to limit the human being
from what they should do. This power is an economic power, where it would
find the benefits of people in the future. For my personal idea, I don’t
think punish people by putting them in the prison is a good idea because
people still doing it. This is one way of showing how power is appearing.
Foucault believes
in “Foucault for Beginners” directed us to think of what power is really
mean to women. It is strongly wants us to be proud of women. In this article
have some part that is similar to the move (Killing Me Softly). Long ago
women couldn’t do anything accept just being home maids. Men had jobs out
side the house and it seem to be that they have so much power over women
because women didn’t find any income to the family. But look at as the
years goes by then women fought for their right to vote, so on and so on.
Women had developed their body to be more in a population world. So they
tend to change how they look, they wanted to be sexier and hotter. Then
most of them would have a lack of diet (eating disorder). When movies stars,
singers, commercialize women usually have a skinny body and have a hot
looking, other women would want to be like that too. I think the when women
think like that, they are absolutely wrong because you born to take space
of your body wise. The other women that didn’t have the same way of hot
looking as you would think that they take too much space in this world
if they are a little bigger than one another. Let’s think about this if
that type of women born and being useless people such as uneducated and
being a prostitute, that is a waste, then it we would say that is take
way too much space in this world. They being influence other women to be
like them. In the other thought, they do it because they want to be attracted
by men. Women want to look good because of men, which would go both ways.
So some of women now are killing themselves without knowing what they had
been done.
These articles want us to understand more on how power in use or appear in different ways, but it has the same of meaning.
