Explain how Omi and Winant disagree with the statement: “These and innumerable other examples show that we tend to view race as something fixed and immutable- something rooted in nature”

The statement on page 357, talks about the race between Blacks and Whites in the eighteenth-century. Blacks were seated separately from Whites. They were thought as bad people or in other word evil. None people would like to be close to Blacks. In case they were walking in the street at nighttime, people try to get away from them. Black people didn’t have a right to voted community leaders; white men would be the first one in people’s mind. If we look back to American history, this was really happened to the blacks; it was such as terrible segregation.

Blacks were always down underneath in the community. They did not even have the rights to be doing anything that related to whites. But Omi and Winant’ idea is that this race won’t stay forever, because if we look at to America right now the segregation between blacks and whites is not appeared anymore. Most of the basketball players and singers are blacks, they get cheered and supported from every one lives in America includes whites. This is telling us that the racial line of blacks and whites has been ended.

There is a statement on page 362 about the race between men and women existed in the history of America. Women could not do anything that men could. They didn’t have rights to vote, they couldn’t have jobs or go to school. One thing that they could do was stayed home and took care of their children. Women could not get involved in any kind of business or government problems. Women didn’t have right to give any idea for community assembly, and they most of the times stayed at home. They had to listen to anything the men told them to do and couldn’t fight back at all. But look at right now, women have rights to vote; they can have education as high as they want and they can also go to work as men.

They can hold government positions, can be community leaders and involve in many things that they couldn’t do before. As we look at that, even though there is also some race that exists between men and women but there is only a small amount of it. These are the two important examples that Omi and Winant brought up in their analysis of the changeable of racial between groups of people. They are also good examples that describe the reason of their disagreement of immutable of racial thinking. After analyzing this idea, it makes us understand that racial line shouldn’t be blocking us from others. We people live on earth should be diverse and join together community works.
