Renga Poetry
Created by the Environmental Education Class at the Salmon
River Trail
June 7, 2003.
Marion, Roger, Jeannine, Charlotte, Ariana, Laura, Todd,
Jen, Carrie, and Tamara
The light filters softly
Winter wren calling song forth
Resonates with another through the fluid web
Connecting all sentient beings on a roller coaster ride
Floating up, flying up, dust
Dangling from a branch, moving in the wind
The family ambles down the trail ready for the sparkly cool river
The smells of the forest
The colors all around
Vibrant and beckoning my perception
Joy of life abounds
Canyons of bark cavernous and deep
Shadows and secrets
Sound of water mingles with wind for a rush shshsh
The web of interconnection shimmers in the sunlight
The wind plays the leaves of the sword fern like a fiddle
Sparkling fairy waterleaf
Web connects the rooted tree
Below ground runs a life unseen by us
Above is also unreachable
Below is alive with activity
A world of being supporting the forests
Glittering sun shining through
Bringing life and energy to all
And deep is the green
Growing darker on the leaves, times passes old leaves to new
The shadow of the infinite looms in the distance
Light flickers through and twinkles on the tree trunks
One leaf flaps up, flapping in the wind
The uncurling of spring life
Somewhat still innocent, light green fronds from this year's growth
Contrasted to wise, Centuries old trees
Alive, Magnificent
Cool Green
Many shades
Shadows and flames of life
What secrets are kept?
In the nook of the old gnarls in the stump
While young and old participate fully in the cycle of life
Everyone enjoys the source
They are shivering about something
Waving
Comeback we are here forever
Rest Peacefully
Endurance
Fragile
Simple yet complex system
Rhythms ebb and Flow
Constant is the heartbeat
Pulsing rhythm of waving leaves songs of bird's rush of wind
Change is both quick and infinitely slow
Within the forest there is death, which give life through nutrients, wisdom, an power
Time unwinds in wounds
Curving, straight an twisted
Rotting, Dusty, growing a new
Gentle breeze blow softly by
Why, why, why
To live on
All needs met
Need or take what is give
Accept the cool breeze
Forest creatures, moss opening to air, mosquito heaven
Leaves straining upward for the energy of life
Listening intently for the fluid sounds of the fluid life down below
Two spider webs, one on top of another, are in the wounds of the tree, collecting it
Smells soft and sweet
Wind whispers on fragile bush
Conversing through nature
Bees, birds, insects, listening leaves
Insects dance in and out of sunrays
Beams manage to reach the forest floor
Small flowers eagerly arise
Looking for warmth from the sun
Looking with the spirit, finding with the soul
And knowing that it is, let it be
This forest is not quiet, it is noisy shouting.. I am here, we live, here we are
Alive with the participation of all
Free disconnect
Soft scented song
Wind from a far off country
The winter wren sings
A sweet sweet song
Age old wisdom of the winds within
And we listen softly
Ears open, hearts open hands open
The full of the old creates openings for youth
As their carcasses decompose into nutrients and life, the cycle continues
Birds sing, leaves life, the air is moving
Sunlight pulls trees leaves to dance
Tall beacons of habitat
Feeding the souls of the forest
Holes of the forest, in wood
Which hole? This hole? Disappeared
People re-enter their ears for home, after time in the forest to soothe their souls
The forest goes with them
Feeling calm, comfortable
Home
With all the comforts
Of home, the song is being sung.
